Pair of Mid-Century Modern Silvered Bronze Sconces with Neoclassical Detailing
This elegant pair of Mid-Century Modern sconces were realized in the United States, circa 1950. The body of each sconce is composed of stylized strands of fabric, reminiscent of bunched silk drapes capped with tassels that wraparound a stylized floral rivet at their apex. Three curved arms with angular striations extend from the body culminating in circular bobeches. The arms meet in an X-form embellishment that suggests wrapped fabric from which two curved arms extend upwards with spherical ends suggesting conifer cones. With their beautiful construction and wonderful neoclassical detailing throughout, these sconces would be a winning addition to any style of interior from traditional to contemporary. They have been newly rewired to American standards and are in excellent condition. They come fitted with custom shades. Each sconce accommodates three candelabra based bulbs providing up to 180 watts of light, or 360 watts for the pair.
American, circa 1950.
