Abstract Hilltop by Masson
Abstract Hilltop by Masson
This stunning and sophisticated oil on canvas painting, entitled "Abstract Hilltop" was realized in the United States, circa 1960. It features an array of color blocks in tones of chocolate, pumpkin, pollen, and camel with a flash of olive green near the base of the composition and a grisaille band at the top. With its sophisticated palate and dynamic composition, this painting embodies the timeless aesthetic of the abstract expressionist aesthetic at its finest. While it appears as pure abstraction upon a cursory glance, its title- as well as the dove gray band at top adding a subtle sense of perspective to the piece- adds topographical connotations. Relaxing one's field of vision, the piece appears as a landscape in late fall, the foliage in the midst of changing into umbers and fiery tones. It is signed "Masson" on the front and has the artist's fish monogram on verso. Excellent condition. It comes presented in a custom walnut gallery frame.
