Mid-Century Modern Sideboard by Harold Schwartz for the Rob Webber Company, Burled Walnut & Brass Fittings
Mid-Century Modern Sideboard by Harold Schwartz for the Rob Webber Company, Burled Walnut & Brass Fittings
This stunning Mid Century Modern sideboard was designed by the illustrious Harold Schwartz and realized by the Romweber Furniture Company in the United States, circa 1950. It features a volumetric rectangular body in a caramel hued walnut with a dramatically figured burled grain. The piece is supported by four rectangular legs that are slightly offset from the body- attached via hand hammered brass supports- lending the piece a subtle "floating" effect. The piece offers six drawers two on each side and four in the center, all fitted with horizontally oriental elongated brass pulls that exhibit a subtle hand dappled texture. The two doors on each side also display this hardware oriented vertically and open to reveal three drawers within.
This piece is a stunning testament to Harold Schwartz's early brutalist aesthetic that appears as timeless and relevant today as when it was created roughly 70 years ago. Its austere silhouette and beautiful attention to detail make it as versatile as it is aesthetically compelling. It would be a winning addition to any style of interior from classic Mid Century Modern to contemporary. It has been newly restored to mint condition. The piece retains its original label reading "Romweber".
