Mid-Century Modernist Hand Carved Walnut & Oak Dowel Pierced Amorphic Sculpture
Mid-Century Modernist Hand Carved Walnut & Oak Dowel Pierced Amorphic Sculpture
This unusual and sophisticated modernist sculpture was realized in France circa 1985. It features a demilune formed base suggestive of a sickle in oak pierced through with a cylindrical dowel in burnished walnut. The amorphic oak body suggests an oversized clamp that holds an oak instrument suggestive of a stylized clothespin (an ode perhaps to the great modernist sculptor Claes Oldenburg), holding a string a spherical walnut orbs- like peas or pearls of descending diameter. With its sophisticated mixture of hard woods to create a rich tonal and textural tableau from the innate qualities of the material, beautiful craftsmanship and dynamic formal contrasts, this piece is sure to delight discerning collectors of first rate modern art as well as those with a penchant for all things striking (and unusual). It would be a winning addition to any style of interior from classic Mid Century Modern to contemporary. Excellent vintage condition.
