This unique and materially dynamic Mid-Century Modernist “NX38” Floor Lamp is designed by Louis Kalff for Philips and originates from the Netherlands, Circa 1950. Features a large saucer form shade in off white enameled metal. Beneath the lip of the uppermost component of the shade is a striated diffuser in white bakelite which rises from a striking conical detail in red bakelite. This red conical detail is supported by a framework in grey enameled metal cylinders which also forms the elongated tripod base. A highly modern and unique design, this piece is exemplary of the mind of Louis Kalff, who worked as an Architect, Artist, and Designer and pioneered modernizing the vision and design process at Phillips during his time as their Art Director. This piece is a highly functional and aesthetically unique Floor Lamp, styling beautifully in a wide array of spaces and settings, from Mid-Century Modernist to Scandinavian and Contemporary Interiors. Newly rewired for American Standards, this piece accommodates one Edison base bulb achieving up to 100 watts of light. In Excellent Vintage Condition.
