Pair of Art Deco Andirons in Patinated Black Enamel w/ Mirrored Seahorse Sillouette Motif
Pair of Art Deco Andirons in Patinated Black Enamel w/ Mirrored Seahorse Sillouette Motif
This beautiful pair of sculptural Art Deco andirons were realized in France circa 1930. They feature a dramatic and graphic silhouette of seahorses, rendered with amazing fidelity in patinated black enamel. The creatures appear at once highly realistic and mythological- like floating dragons- with their wings, curled tails, serrated outlines, and elongated snouts. The pair of seahorses face one another in mirrored symmetry. The andirons are complete with volumetric black iron supports that brace the seahorse bodies. With their monochromatic palates, and clean modernist lines, these andirons would be a winning addition to any style of interior from classic Art Deco to contemporary. They are in excellent vintage condition.
