Modernist Art Deco Inspired Nickel and Brass Andirons, Manner of Karl Springer
Modernist Art Deco Inspired Nickel and Brass Andirons, Manner of Karl Springer
Handmade by artisans in New York state, this pair of modernist andirons embody the old world craftsmanship and design aesthetic of a bygone era. Each andiron offers a solid rectilinear piece of polished nickel with a gently sloped top. A smaller, central band of polished brass runs the height of each andiron, which in turn, is topped by a band of polished nickel. The dynamic tiered form of these Andirons offers a nod to the stepped silhouettes of Art Deco skyscraper architecture and recall the work of celebrated midcentury designer Karl Springer. Each andiron is supported by cylindrical blackened iron streamlined arms overlaid with a spiral coil that in relief that wraps the body of each. The arms adjoin the backs of the andirons at a perpendicular angle. With their clean modernist lines and luxurious materials, these andirons would be a winning addition to any style of interior from Classic Art Deco to contemporary. Excellent condition.
