Art Deco Machine Age Cubist Dining Table in Book-Matched Rosewood
Art Deco Machine Age Cubist Dining Table in Book-Matched Rosewood
This stunning Art Deco Machine Age cubist dining table was realized in France circa 1935. It features a two tier rectangular skyscraper style base consisting of a rosewood bottom (with a black lacquer top) with another rectangular form (of a smaller surface area) in black lacquer sitting on top of it. A volumetric tapered pentagonal form ascends to the bookmatched rose wood legs. These legs consisting of two tightly spaced rectangular columns, appear nearly as monolithic forms were it not for a generous seam of negative space down the center. The legs attach to a solid rectangular bookmatched rosewood top with a stunning striated natural woodgrain. With its beautiful craftsmanship (representing the fastidious attention to detail of a bygone era) and clean modernist lines, this piece is sure to delight discerning collectors of first rate Art Deco objects, as well as those with a penchant for all things exquisite. The table has been newly restored to mint condition.
France, circa 1935.
