Directoire Style Dining Table in Bookmatched and Inlaid Macassar w/ Bronze Mounts
Directoire Style Dining Table in Bookmatched and Inlaid Macassar w/ Bronze Mounts
This stunning Art Deco dining table was realized in France circa 1940. Sitting on four conical ebonized legs with brass capped sabots and brass circular embellishments at the apex of each leg, this directoire style table features a dramatic bookmatched macassar top showcasing the stunning natural woodgrain. The piece offers an elegantly apportioned and notched apron, as well as a top with a rectangular panel with vertical wood grain surrounded by a bookmatched border (with a similarly oriented grain). These two macassar areas are separated by a band of horizontally oriented woodgrain that runs at a perpendicular to the other macassar boards, imbuing the piece with a subtle (yet powerful) dynamism. With its patently impeccable construction, beautiful materials, and clean modernist lines, this piece would be a winning addition to any style of interior from classic Art Deco to contemporary. It has been newly restored to mint condition.
