1940s French Art Deco Sycamore, Black Lacquer & Giltwood Cocktail Table
1940s French Art Deco Sycamore, Black Lacquer & Giltwood Cocktail Table
This elegant Art Deco cocktail table was realized in France, circa 1940. It features a rectangular blonde sycamore top with diamond form bookmatching in which the woodgrain of the walnut panels meets at perpendicular angles creating a rhythmic visual pattern. The top sits on conical legs with spherical bottoms (in the manner of Jean Royere), which ascend from sculptural black lacquer bases. An undulating gilded embellishment connects the two lacquer bases (with three open diamond forms in the center, formally reiterating the motif present on table top's inlay. With its fastidious attention to detail and clean modernist lines, this piece is as versatile as it is aesthetically compelling, blending perfectly with any style of interior from traditional to contemporary. It has been newly restored to mint condition.
