This refined Art Deco glazed ceramic candle was designed by Ilse Claesson for Rörstrand in Sweden, circa 1930. It features a stylized hour glass form with a striated onyx glazed base and a sea foam center with abstract hand painted motifs, as well as subtle horizontal banding, throughout. The neck and mouth of the piece have also been painted in an onyx hue, while the interior is sea foam. The piece exhibits a wonderful craqueleur finish throughout. With its impeccable craftsmanship and subtle palate, this piece is sure to delight discerning collectors of midcentury Scandinavian ceramics, as well as those with a penchant for exquisite objects. It is signed Rörstrand on the base and is in excellent vintage condition.
