Mid-Century Modern Glazed Pottery Vase by Jean Megard (1925-2015) from Boit France
Mid-Century Modern Glazed Pottery Vase by Jean Megard (1925-2015) from Boit France
This stunning Mid Century Modern ceramic vase was realized by the esteemed artist Jean Mégard in France in 1953. It features a teardrop form with a bulbous base that tapers to an elongated neck. The handcrafted ceramic offers an expressionistic glaze consisting of swirling tones of ruby red that wraps around the sides of the vessel creating white circular forms in the center of each side. Hot yellow open form penumbra-like embellishments, in a lemon yellow hue, occupy the middle of each white circle. With its sophisticated color palate, rich expressionistic glaze (echoing the style of the period's Abex painting), and graphic form, this piece is sure to delight discerning ceramic collectors of the period as well as those with a penchant for exquisite and unique objects. It would be a winning addition to any style of interior from classic Mid Century Modern to contemporary. Signed "J. Megard and dated "53" on the base.
