La Verre Francais Stylized Palm Tree Cameo Glass Vase by Charles Schneider
La Verre Francais Stylized Palm Tree Cameo Glass Vase by Charles Schneider
This rare cameo glass vase was realized by Charles Schneider- one of the most illustrious and influential glass blowers of the period- in France, circa 1930. It is part of his celebrated "La Verre Francais" series. Composed of handblown glass in a mottled robin's egg blue, it features stylized palm trees in glossy midnight indigo blue. The rendered flora details are hyper flat recalling Japanese woodcuts and the tropical Tahitian paintings of Gauguin. Its fronds are depicted as skyscraper style concentric demilune forms, an iconic motif in High Style Deco. The rectangular body, with rounded corners, gently expands outwards to its apex. This represents a trophy among discerning glass collectors, considered among Schneider's most exquisite pieces. It would be a stunning centerpiece atop any table or etagere. Excellent condition. Signed "La Verre Francais" on the base.
