Pair of White Ceramic Dove Sculptures by Jacques Adnet

Pair of White Ceramic Dove Sculptures by Jacques Adnet

$2,975.00

This stunning pair of Art Deco white ceramic dove sculptures were realized by Jacques Adnet- one of the most celebrated and influential designers of the Art Deco Era- in France circa 1940. They offer modernist stylized forms of doves- a leitmotif in design spanning back to the ancient greeks- in two positions. One dove appears standing upright on a volumetric rectilinear stand, its tail feathers dramatically fanned out behind it and head tucked. The other dove appears bowed over, perhaps pecking at food on the ground with its tail appearing as an austere cylindrical element. The standing dove clearly appears as the aviary creature that it is, while the bowed one is reduced to the point of abstraction, looking instead like something akin to a Brancusi sculpture. Both of these sculptures share highly reduced, stylized and angular features, and demonstrate a profound economy of form. With their monochromatic palate and clean modernist lines, they would be a winning addition to any style of interior from classic Art Deco to contemporary. They are signed Adnet and are in excellent vintage condition.
