Stunning Modernist Oil on Canvas Abstract Triptych Painting by Marilyn Levin Circa 2005
This triptych by Marilyn Levin demonstrates, in no uncertain terms, why the artist's work is so celebrated and sought after by collectors internationally. These three works, intended to be presented as a pair, are both visually stunning and conceptually loaded with art historical reference. Levin experiments with the possibilities of oil painting. She mixes with virtuosic touch soothing earth tones- limestone, lapiz lazuli and evergreen- with splashes of cardinal red and color fields of shimmering bronze. Similarly, she proves able to effortlessly combine seemingly geological applications of heavy impasto with watery turpentine rivulets cascading down towards the base of the canvas. Areas of the canvas appear matte, others iridescent, while still others appear coated in a rich varnish resembling a lavish coat of acacia honey. At times recalling the abstracts of both Gerhard Richter and Joan Mitchell, these paintings offer seemingly endless visual pleasure. This triptych would be a wonderful complement to any home or office space, adding vibrant color and dynamic texture. They come framed in custom ebonized walnut and gilt frames and are in excellent condition. "Levin's new work is wonderfully strong and clear. The color is whole and new...She continues to Challenge herself. It suits her." Brice Marden
