This beautiful original Mid-Century Modern lithograph was created for the inauguration of the new Alhambra Theater, featuring Maurice Chevalier, circa 1948. It features the actor donning a black bow tie with a brimmed straw hat tilted covering most of his face, revealing only his grinning mouth against a sky blue background. This piece would be a winning acquisition for anyone interested in the theatre, as well as those with a penchant for first rate prints. Outside of its historical value, this is a graphic and vibrant piece with compelling typography and a cheerful, sophisticated color palate.
Kiffer designed thirteen lithographs for Chavalier from 1927-1963, as well as a prints for other stars of the period including Josephine Baker, Edith Piaf and many other performers.) The piece comes presented in a custom gallery frame. Excellent vintage condition.
