Lithograph on Japon Paper by André Masson Edition 70/101
Lithograph on Japon Paper by André Masson Edition 70/101
This reserved and sophisticated Lithograph on Japon Paper by André Masson Edition 70/101 originates from France, C. 1973. This surrealistic abstraction features a vertical composition on Japon paper, where two red lines meander at sudden angles, overlapping and stopping with all of their end points visible. The line is surrounded by an oval of blue, with a dash of more vibrant blue occupying the lower right area of the oval. The natural hue of the paper is visible along the edge of the red line, creating an atmospheric effect that makes the line appear to float. André Masson was a significant painter in the surrealist movement, sharing a paris studio with Joan Miró and utilizing automatic drawing and other surrealist techniques of creation and artistic exploration. A beautiful example of Masson's process and the ambiguity of themes and object matter in his work, this piece will style beautifully in a wide array of spaces and settings, from Mid-Century Modernist to Contemporary and Minimal Interiors. Editioned 70/101 and signed by the artist. Fitted in an antique white gold gallery frame. In Excellent Vintage Condition.
