Two Korean Antique Dowery Boxes in Brown Rattan and Red Papier-Mâché
Two Korean Antique Dowery Boxes in Brown Rattan and Red Papier-Mâché
Two attractive 19th century Korean dowery boxes in brown rattan and red hand-painted papier-mâché, the one slightly larger in delicately interwoven brown rattan with an onyx tassel attached to the handle and the other a more simple red papier-mâché box with black re-inforced corners and which is nevertheless attractively lined with green and white pattern paper lining in a beautiful exotic floral design. Both boxes would make elegant elements of decorations in which one could also store personal items ideal for a bedroom or a family room. These dowery boxes or trousseaux were destined for the future bride to present to her in laws when she married and usually contained a selection of personal items clothes, linen and objects etc.
