Art Deco Gray Stone Chinese Stamp with Hand Carved Guardian Lion Motif
Art Deco Gray Stone Chinese Stamp with Hand Carved Guardian Lion Motif
This beautiful Art Deco stamp was realized in China, circa 1925. It features a volumetric rectangular body crowned with a hand carved guardian lion (a Chinese leitmotif) and accompanying pup, climbing its hind leg- all realized in gray stone, offering a naturally rich variegated texture. The stamp is incised on the bottom with a Chinese character, whose silhouette is surrounded by carnelian red ink (a color associated with luck in Chinese culture). With its impeccable craftsmanship and stunning form, this piece is not only a functional stamp, but an objet d'art in its own right that would be a winning addition atop any side table or desk. It is in excellent condition.
