Redfield & Rice Silver Plated Etruscan Handled Bowl with Classical Motifs
Redfield & Rice Silver Plated Etruscan Handled Bowl with Classical Motifs
This refined antique handled bowl was produced by Redfield & Rice- an esteemed producer of silver wares based in New York State. The bowl has a flat ovoid centre and steeply sloped sides. The two curved handles are connected via a flat rectangular rod with two orbital finials. On the interior ends of the bowl, there are two identical busts of a Greek male figure in relief wearing a Corinthian helmet against a crosshatched background. These figures are framed in a circular cutout with a raised border. Two matching busts of a Classical Greek female donning a visor appears in a circular form on each longer side of the ovoid form. The bowl rests on four cloven feet, resembling those belonging to an Etruscan ram. Additionally, there is a a beaded border encircling the perimeter above a repeating stylized Acanthus leaf motif. This would be an excellent dish for presenting candies in a living room or alternately hand towels in a bathroom. Excellent condition. Inscribed on the bottom "Redfield & Rice New York".
