Antique Sterling Silver Art Nouveau Decorative Bowl with Morning Glory Motif
Antique Sterling Silver Art Nouveau Decorative Bowl with Morning Glory Motif
This stunning and sculptural antique decorative bowl was realized in England, circa 1900. It features a scalloped border with an abundance of stylized morning glory flowers at different stages of blooming. The floral forms are overlaid on top of one another, imbuing them with a wonderfully abstracted aspect. Additionally there are scrolling, wave-like forms in relief tracing the perimeter of the piece. There is a monogram reading "HLJ" hand-hammered scrolling font in the oval center of the piece. While this is a perfectly functional bowl- ideal for storing small valuables, candies or any number of other items- it is also an objet d'art in its own right that is ornate in its decoration, yet austere in form and inarguably beautiful. It would be a winning addition to any style of interior from traditional to contemporary. The piece is inscribed in the center "Sterling 6072 7 In" and is in very good vintage condition. It weighs 104 grams.
