ATELIER PETITOT

Founded in Paris in 1878 by the renowned bronze worker Antonin Petitot, Atelier Petitot quickly became a prominent name in the world of lighting. Initially, the company specialized in selling wholesale lamps across Europe and the United States. The transition to a new era began when Antonin's son, Henri Petitot, took over the reins in 1917. Under Henri's leadership, along with esteemed contemporaries like Hettier et Vincent, Atelier Petitot rose to prominence as the leading producer of French Art Deco lighting by the early 1930s.

The origins of Atelier Petitot trace back to 1860, when Eugène Petitot established the company in Paris. The initial focus was on creating standard lighting chandeliers for public buildings, particularly churches. However, as the company evolved, it began to specialize in luxury lighting for private clients, adapting to changing tastes. This shift reached its zenith in the 1920s when Atelier Petitot started producing exquisite Art Deco lighting.

Henri Petitot (1914-1938) played a pivotal role in this transformation, driving the creation of several flagship models. Iconic designs such as the white opal glass chandelier and patinated bronze wall sconces emerged during this period. Atelier Petitot's creations were celebrated for their blend of functionality and aesthetic appeal, characterized by geometric shapes, satin-finish glass, and nickel-plated bronze. The meticulous finish and innovative design of Petitot chandeliers set them apart, earning acclaim for their exceptional quality.

Atelier Petitot's reputation for high-quality metal lighting fixtures was further enhanced through collaborations with premier French glass factories. Notable partnerships included the Ezan Glass Company, Sabino, Muller Frères, Degue, and Schneider, all of whom provided exquisite shades for Petitot's designs.
