$6,475.00

French Georges Rouault (1871-1958) Circus Aquatint, 1935. Auguste, Plate XVI from Cirque de l’Etoile filante (C and R 255) Aquatint printed in colors, 1935. From the edition of 280. Measures: 12 x 8 1/2″. In a carved giltwood frame with stylized fleur-de-lys motifs to the corners. The print illustrates the figure of a youth in an ochre leotard, with lace cap, collar and at wrists, standing before the ballet barre, a seated animal watching him to the left. Rouault was attempting to revive the stained glass tradition of the medieval and gothic period in France. His painting style makes evident that influence, with colors and body elements divided into excellent condition from the estate of Maxine Pines.
